Symposium Update

We are all back from our big trip down to the Queenstown Quilt Symposium. It was fantastic. Beautiful weather, amazing scenery, wonderful people, mind-blowing quilts and awesome workshops.

I ( Ashleigh) have never been to Queenstown before nor have I had the pleasure in teaching at a Symposium so to do both in a week was pretty cool. My classes went so well and the girls that attended them were just fantastic! Not only were they so polite and well-mannered but they produced some fantastic work, I was so proud of them.

I taught a 2 day class and we had 10 in the class ranging from 12-15 years old. They all designed, pieced, appliqued, quilted and some even bound their wall-hanging. They all had to bring a few fabrics to use, ( all of them had patchwork Mum’s or Grandma’s so they could raid their yummy coloured stashes.) I set out a few guid lines they had to follow and the rest is history.

At the end of the 2 day class we all popped over to the end of day get together, ( ‘Happy Hour’).  All the girls got up and showed all the ladies what they had produced. Everyone was  BLOWN AWAY!!!

On my 3rd day teaching, which was the 2nd class (basically) the same girls came and made a cute little froggy! It was meant to be filled with wheat but once we got down there, rice seemed to be the better idea. They also had to bring their fabric for the frog, however we did have a few scraps that we let them use. The little frogs turned out so cute and each so different. I didn’t get a photo of the end frogs as we had a bit of an accident near the end of the class ( sewing machine through finger,) and in the end I forgot but we also got to take them to show and tell at the ‘Happy Hour’ at the end of the day.

Donna did 2 day classes, Machine Quilting, which is always popular and amazing results come out of these classes. She also did her Pacific Runner class. This is also fantastic not only to see them come together but what colour-way’s people come up with.  Batiks are such a big hit and look AMAZING, but there were are few variations this time, including a black, white and red colour-way. Everyone did such a good job.

We stayed one extra day down there so we decided to get on a bus a spend the day in Arrowtown. What a cute little town. All and all we had a lovely time away and meet lots of new people and caught up with a bunch of old friends that live else where.

We are back into it this week and gearing up for a big week next week with Gloria Loughman coming and doing some classes, then Donna and I are off to Quilt market in America the weekend after. FULL ON!!!

Back to the sewing machine 🙂

P.S. It looks like they have smokes in their mouth, don’t worry I wouldn’t allow that, it was my lolly pop bribe to be good. Not that I needed it.

Cuddle update

We always have people coming into the shop and seeing our lovely cuddle couch and asking to purchase the made up quilts so we have decided that we will put some prices on them and see what happens. So if there was one that you really wanted ( I know a few people did ) we now have them for sale. We will also be selling ones that we no longer can get the fabric for.

Large quilts ( 13 strips, 53″ x 60″ ) = $250.00

Medium quilts ( 11 strips, 45″ x 60″ ) = $200.00

Small cot size ( 35″ x 41″ ) = $150.00

Small pieced squares ( 33″ x 44″ ) = $180.00

Our stock of colour ways will be changing so the best way to see what we have is to come in and see. Or if you want to know in detail you can e-mail us. donnaward@xtra.co.nz

Saturday Sampler pick up 3!!

This Saturday ( 16th of April ) is the next Saturday Sampler pick up date. It will be the 3rd one this year and they are starting to take shape! It is really different to previous years so even I am really excited at how they are look sooo good! This weekend is also the Hamilton 400 V8 racing and like every year that it has been here in Hamilton, it has fallen on a Saturday Sampler pick up date. However this has never made any difference to getting to the Studio or been a problem in the past.

See you Saturday 🙂

Gypsy Bandana

We have an adorable new range in from Pillow & Maxfield for Michael Miller called Gypsy Bandana and it really is adorable! I love the shapes on the flowers and the colour combination is to die for.
